Session Overview

Session 1: Introduction to the Gift of Prophecy

In this session, Dr. Phil Rich introduces the gift of prophecy as one of the nine manifestations of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:7–11). Starting from Acts 2:16–18, he defines prophecy as a supernatural ability to hear a word from God and speak it forth for the blessing of others. Drawing mainly from the New King James Version, he presents eight foundational truths—ranging from passionate desire and asking in faith to scriptural alignment and spiritual discernment—that every believer must embrace to develop and operate effectively in this gift.

Session 2: The Office of the Prophet

In this session, Dr. Phil Rich distinguishes between the universal gift of prophecy and the office (calling) of the prophet. Grounded in Ephesians 4:7–16  and other key passages, students will explore the fivefold ministry’s purpose, the unique authority and divine call of prophets, criteria for identifying true prophets by their fruits, and the spiritual realities of prophetic service. Practical insights guide believers in operating wisely in the gift of prophecy and supporting those called to the prophetic office.

Session 3: Foundational Functions of Prophecy

In this session, Dr. Phil Rich explores the foundational functions of the gift of prophecy as laid out in 1 Corinthians 14:3 . Students will examine the threefold ministry of prophecy—edification, exhortation and comfort—and its relationship to the gift of tongues. The session concludes with practical guidance on cultivating a prophetic life through Scripture, prayer, spiritual submission (James 4:7–8) and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s leading.

Session 4: The Tongues Connection

In this session, Dr. Phil Rich explores “The Tongues Connection,” discovering how praying and singing in the Spirit edify the individual believer, build faith, and prepare one for higher-level prophetic ministry. Through key passages in 1 Corinthians, Romans, Ephesians, and Acts , plus real-life testimonies, learners will see practical steps for cultivating intimate Spirit-led communion and unlocking deeper prophetic anointing.

Session 5: The Word of God Connection

In this session, Dr. Phil Rich explores how the gift of prophecy is rooted in and activated by the Word of God. Through key New and Old Testament passages, students learn that true prophecy originates from the Holy Spirit, is anchored in Scripture, and equips believers to discern truth, receive revelation, and release prophetic insights. Practical guidance on daily spiritual disciplines—reading, meditation, and contemplation—culminates in a strategy for letting God’s Word become “fire shut up in your bones,” transforming both speaker and hearer.

Session 6: Hearing God Through Intimacy

In this session, Dr. Phil Rich explores how cultivating intimacy with the Holy Spirit enables believers to operate in the gift of prophecy and other spiritual gifts. Centered on the New Testament concept of koinōnia (communion), the lecture unpacks seven dimensions of this fellowship—fellowship, partnership, mutual participation, intimacy, communication, contribution and union—each illustrated with Scripture . Students will learn how to draw near to God, cooperate with the Spirit in prayer, and activate their prophetic calling in ministry.

Session 7: Impartation and Mentorship

In this session, Dr. Phil Rich explores the concept of spiritual impartation—how an anointing or gift of the Spirit can be transferred from one believer to another through intentional mentorship and relationship. Grounded in key Scriptures (Romans 1:11; Philippians 4:9; Hebrews 5:11–14; 1 Thessalonians 4:1, 2:13; Galatians 3:5; 2 Kings 2:9–12; Hebrews 5:14), the session defines impartation by analogy to gardening (“implantation”), outlines five practical steps for receiving impartations from mentors, and concludes with a personal testimony of apostolic succession and prayer for students to connect with spiritual fathers and mothers.

Session 8: Receiving and Activating the Gift of Prophecy

In this session, Dr. Phil Rich explores “new beginnings” by teaching students how to receive and activate the gift of prophecy. Drawing on scripture (1 Corinthians 14:1; Romans 12:6; 1 Thessalonians 5:16–21; 1 John 2:20 KJV, etc.), he outlines six practical steps—desire, prayer, faith, love, grounding in the Word, and Spirit‐monitoring—and explains the role of the unction (anointing) in releasing supernatural revelation. Students conclude with a prayer of impartation, ready to step out in prophetic ministry.
